Knee Deep in Fascination!

I was curious to see what Quake levels were designed by whom, and while searching (*and not finding this, if you could send me the file, it'd be greatly appreciated*) I came across this interesting post by John Romero:

DOOM 1993 Video

This video was taken in November of 1993 and shows the id software team hanging out and working. In the opening portions you can see them huddled around the TV playing Aladdin for Genesis. Romero even goes out of his way to mention it was programmed by David Perry! I feel so proud that there were other people out there who appreciated David Perry's work back then. Sadly no girls in my elementary school agreed with me (or cared to listen). That's fine, because if I ever run into John Romero, we can discuss our appreciation for Earthworm Jim.

In addition to the exciting David Perry news, in this video is Romero playing a beta version of Doom. Interesting tidbits include: Wolfenstein 3-D sound clips because Bobby prince wasn't finished yet, on the first stage there is a secret wall that leads to the shotgun where in the final version it is an open doorway. The Wolfenstein info is pointed out by Romero, but I felt obligated to mention it if you were on the fence about watching this 10 minute video. By the way--you're welcome.

Well that's all for this clearly geeky Friday. Enjoy!

*= I found it. It was simple to find. Thanks anyway.
